Reduce the Speed Limit on Our State Highway
Reduce the Speed Limit on Our State Highway
The Issue
My community and I are living uncomfortably with a terror on the wheels. Each day, this State Highway sees a significant amount of traffic, including heavy, reckless dump trucks that tear down the road at high speeds. The current speed limit seems to offer little to no deterrent to these unsafe driving practices, thus making it highly dangerous for others to travel.
Looking at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's data, as of the past few years, speeding was a contributing factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities. While it is not precisely stated how many of these involved dump trucks or similar vehicles, it underscores the general risk posed by excessive speed. With the heavy vehicular activity on our State Highway and the surrounding area causing 6 fatalities in the year 2024 the likelihood of a fatal incident on Kentucky Highway 1992 is far too high.
It is time to demand a safer environment for us and for future generations. We cannot afford to wait until further tragedy occurs. We insist on an immediate reduction in the speed limit on our State Highway to 35MPH and 25MPH for trucks. The right to safety should be prioritized over speedy transit.
Reckless driving and unhealthy speed levels tarnish the quality of our lives. A speed limit reduction isn't just a number change – it's a commitment to our safety and peace. Sign this petition and join us in calling for a reduced speed limit for safer travel on our State Highway. Let's ensure that security and safety triumph over haste.
