BBC Radio 6 Music delivers two minute news broadcasts every hour, all throughout the day. These often contain shocking and graphic content, which can often be unsuitable for children. We believe this is detrimental to the quality of its output, and propose that Radio 6 vastly reduce the number of news bulletins it plays during each day, to run in line with Radio 3. 

6 Music is not a news station it's a music station, far and above the best choice for new music. However, no music lover in their right minds needs to be constantly updated with news bulletins, particularly when they are often focused heavily upon high profile rapes, murders, and sexual assalt charges, and particularly while we are likely to have young kids around. There is simply no world in which any reasonable person needs to be told about these things every 58 minutes of every day. If we want to keep up with the news, we can switch to a more news-based station like Radio 4, or LBC.

BBC Radio 3 plays news bulletins just 7 times per day, because its specific remit is to focus on music and the arts. News is from 6:30 to 8am throughout the Breakfast programme, and also at 1pm, 5pm and 6pm. This is more than enough for any reasonable person.

We request that BBC 6 Music reduce the number of its news broadcasts to run in line with Radio 3, moving its focus more towards the music it plays and the news around it, rather than on the relentless reminders of how horrible the world is.
