Reduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Computers and Related Services

Reduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Computers and Related Services
The Issue
We at TAB not only represent the members of IT fraternity but also represent millions of Indian citizens who have embraced and embedded technology in their day-to-day life, so much so that a world without computers and technology has become unimaginable.
How important technology has become was highlighted strongly during the COVID-19 outbreak when the world was brought to a halt by a rogue virus, thanks to technology, students were attending classes from home, executives, techies, administrators etc. were working from home. Computers and laptops at home helmed the driver's seat.
Our Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, emphasized that there should be a Laptop in every Youth's hand and his vision of digital India reiterates the importance and essential nature of Information Technology in process of nation building.
Owning and maintaining a computer laptop has been categorically placed under essential commodity, demonstrating the true essence of its importance in our daily lives. However, instead of encouraging this necessity of technological advancement, we are burdened with an unjustified tax of 18% GST on computers and related services. This heavy taxation hampers India's progress in creating a digitally proficient society.
Other essential commodities are taxed only at 5% GST or totally exempted from GST, establishing a precedent that goods of daily significance should bear a lesser economic burden on citizens. Therefore, in alignment with the vision of a digitally sound India, we humbly request for the GST on computers and related services to be proportionately reduced to 5%, if not entirely exempted.
Will you join us in making a difference by signing this petition and to promote accessibility of affordable tech for every Indian citizen? Your voice can play a decisive role in moulding the taxation on this essentially important commodity, to make if more affordable for the kids of all sectors of our society.
