📢 UPDATE: Australian Passport Fees Are Going Up Again in January 2026! 🇦🇺🛂

Hi everyone — I wanted to share an important update on our petition to reduce the excessive cost of the Australian passport. Thank you to all of those who have supported and signed this petition so far.

👉 From 1 January 2026, the cost of a standard 10-year Australian passport is set to increase again — by roughly $5–$17, bringing the price to around $422. This is another rise on top of previous increases, continuing a worrying trend of passport costs rising faster than inflation and far beyond the ability of many Australians to comfortably afford it.

🌍 This means the Australian passport will remain the most expensive in the world — even after the new increase. Australia currently holds the top spot ahead of countries like Mexico, the USA, New Zealand, and many other developed nations where passport fees are significantly lower.

💬 A passport isn’t a luxury — it’s a fundamental document necessary for identity and access to travel, work, study and family opportunities abroad. Yet Australians are burdened with one of the highest fees globally, despite no clear explanation for why it costs so much more than comparable countries.

📉 This price increase is exactly the reason we started this petition — and exactly why change is still urgently needed. If you haven’t already signed and shared, please do so now and help us push for:

✔ Transparency around passport fee setting,

✔ Fairer pricing that reflects global standards, and

✔ Relief for families, students, workers, and travellers who shoulder this cost.

👉 Share this post with friends, family and networks — let’s make sure every Australian knows what’s happening and why we need action.

Thanks so much for your support — we’re still fighting this! ✊🇦🇺
