I am a student, and I realize my situation is not unique. Many families across our country struggle with the excessive cost of school uniforms. In 2015, statistics from The Children's Society revealed that families spend an average of £316 per year for a child at a state secondary and £251 for a child at a state primary on uniforms. This outrageous outlay puts undue financial pressure on families, often leading to debt and hardship. Many students also feel the brunt of this, as the high costs can lead to bullying and deprivation. We believe the financial burden of uniforms should be significantly reduced, to a level where every child can afford to dress for school without their families worrying about costs. We, the students and parents, urge the Department of Education to implement a price cap on school uniforms, making education more affordable and accessible for all.
