Reduce speed limit on Ronald Road near Pinegrove Farm

Reduce speed limit on Ronald Road near Pinegrove Farm
The Issue
Living near Ronald Road in Minesing, we face a daily threat to our safety due to the high speeds of vehicles passing by. It's especially dangerous for those of us riding horses, for seniors taking their daily walks, for children being pushed in strollers, and for other vulnerable residents enjoying what should be a safe, rural environment. Our community is home to equestrian activities, with young riders and their horses taking to the roads. Yet, the current speed limit of 80 km/hr just before Pinegrove Farm feels like an invitation for tragedy.
There have been countless instances of vehicles – be they cars, trucks, or motorcycles – racing down this road far exceeding the speed limit. This behaviour has made it perilous for anyone attempting to use the road for leisurely or necessary travel. This area is intended to be a serene escape, a small rural village ambience, yet it is overshadowed by the constant risk posed by speeding vehicles.
We propose that the speed limit on Ronald Road be reduced from 80 km/hr to 50 km/hr in front of Pinegrove Farm. Moreover, the transition from 50 km/hr to 80 km/hr should be moved approximately 0.5 km west, beginning at Fralick Road. This adjustment ensures that the high-speed zone starts at a safer distance from the equestrian site, reducing the risk of accidents involving pedestrians, riders, and those who live in the vicinity.
Statistics have shown that reducing speed limits in areas with pedestrian and animal traffic significantly diminishes the rate of accidents and the severity of potential injuries. This is not just about convenience; it's about protecting human lives and the well-being of our cherished animals, community, and friends. Implementing this change will bring us peace of mind, ensuring our community is a safer place for everyone who calls it home.
We urge the respective authorities to take swift action in adjusting these speed limits and re-evaluating the placement of the 50-80 km/hr transition point to better serve and protect our community’s needs. We need your support to make this vital change possible. Please sign this petition to show your support and stand together for a safer Ronald Road. Together, we can make a difference.
