Petition Update - 26th May 2024
Hi All, a petition update - a rather long one but all progress hopefully 🤞
I have this morning met with the councillors, unfortunately though only 1 other person showed up so was a very limited assessment of local concerns which is disappointing despite providing previous updates.
However, we have discussed all matters in full including:
• Visibility from Mansfield Road and Sandys Road junctions due to the height of landscaping looking up Townsend Way towards Pickersleigh Road.
• Potential solutions to slow traffic down on approach to the roundabout with Mansfield Road and Sandys Road - potential considerations for rumble strips and signs to alert approaching traffic of blind junction.
• Road Markings being barely visible on junctions, and central lines.
• VAS installation on Townsend Way - this will hopefully be in progress with Worcestershire County Council Highways next to look at potential location.
• Pedestrian danger of crossing Townsend Way due to speed of traffic and discussion as to whether a pedestrian crossing would be possible.
• Anti-social driving including speed, exhaust systems and vehicles taking the 40mph by Maybank Junction as an excuse to accelerate beyond speed limit.
Following this meeting the following will also be pursued:
• West Mercia Police Safer Neighbourhood Team input
• Speed monitoring
• Highways input on the above suggestions and possibilities however no guarantee. But VAS has been agreed.
The councillors also recommend that we get more people on board so will likely action another round of flyers across estate to provide updates and to encourage more to get involved and raise concerns. It was also recommended that residents keep a record of any disturbances as a result of vehicles accelerating/backfiring or acting in Anti-social manner (including make/model/reg if witnessed in person) otherwise just a running record would help to build a picture for police and Highways.
In addition, it is recommended each resident reports their concerns to Worcestershire County Council Highways directly as well as back this petition to raise awareness of concerns. Therefore, can you please raise an issue with Worcestershire County Council Highways using this link - https://capublic.worcestershire.gov.uk/HighwaysFaultsPublic/OtherFault.aspx?_ga=2.66569966.1906871212.1664202300-2086013114.1664202248&_gl=1*1cap3lr*_ga*MTg3MzMxMTEwOS4xNzE2NzQ3OTM4*_ga_RSBCTX039R*MTcxNjc0NzkzMy4xLjAuMTcxNjc0NzkzNi4wLjAuMA
I have drafted a generic summary which everyone can use if desired, alternatively please write your own. 😊

• Additional Information - I would like to raise and express concerns in relation to the B4208 Townsend Way, Malvern. A fellow resident has started a petition and raised these concerns with Councillor Beverley Nielson and Councillor Marilyn Birks. I fully support concerns raised in that it has become noticeable over time of the speed of the traffic has continued to increase and as West Mercia will already be aware numerous issues with loud vehicles/exhausts and bikes travelling way in excess of the speed limit. When built, the road was not intended to be a main through road however over the years its being used all hours of the day and by all manner of vehicles. Furthermore, increased traffic, speed and poor visibility from Mansfield Road and Sandys Road due to existing landscaping which limits your view and Maybank Road again due to existing landscaping which limits your view onto Townsend Way.It is common to ‘take your life in your hands’ as there is insufficient time from seeing a vehicle approach to actually being able to pull out of the junction safely, due to the speed of the vehicles travelling. Furthermore, road markings have all but faded or barely visible on junctions and centre lines. As a result, it is impacting the quality of life for local communities and action must be taken to prevent someone being seriously injured or at worst killed on this stretch of road.
• Add photo/video if desired (not required)
• Input your personal details
• Review summary & submit
Your continued support is still needed to ensure this progresses and adequate changes are made to ensure safety of all road users on Townsend Way. Please keep sharing this with neighbours, local residents and anyone who has concerns ans is willing to support this.
Many Thanks
Matt 👌
