REDUCE POLLUTION AT DOVEDALE FOR CHILDREN'S SAFETY AND HEALTH
The Issue
POLLUTION FACTS
86% of children in the UK breathe in dangerous levels of toxic air caused by pollution – in Liverpool the main cause of air pollution is road transport. All 150 schools in Liverpool, including Dovedale, exceed 3 out of 3 W.H.O. pollution limits: nitrous oxide, and 2 types of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10).

HEALTH FACTS
High levels of pollution affects residents’ health, development and life expectancy.
Air pollution has a bigger effect on children than adults: Particulate matter causes not only asthma and smaller lungs but also reduces concentration and learning outcomes.
The carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide also contribute to the climate crisis.
CAR FACTS
IDLING releases twice the amount of nitrous oxide compared to moving vehicles as does RESTARTING ENGINE and ACCELERATING
CLEAN AIR SOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE
- active travel improves learning outcomes and increases concentration
- reduced car journeys/not having cars near the schools means less nitrous oxide and particulate matter being breathed in by our children.
- No cars = less serious injuries (some recent near misses). It is safer!
OUR SOLUTION FOR DOVEDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dovedale are already promoting active travel. This is great but not enough because some have to travel from further and we are still polluting our children, teachers and residents. We propose to close the roads around Dovedale at school drop off and pick up. This has been successful LOCALLY (Greenbank school), and NATIONALLY (mum’s for lungs)
Alternatives are available (parking a bit further away - dilutes the pollution effect, walking, scooting, cycling to school). For those who need to drive, this only means leaving 2-5 mins earlier from home.
PLEASE SIGN to support closure of the roads around Dovedale school!
