The Issue

🛑 Stop the Cuts to Local Food & SNAP Programs in Texas

Urge U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson to Protect Nutrition Access and Local Farms

We call on U.S. Representative Julie Johnson to oppose devastating cuts proposed in the U.S. House Agriculture Committee’s farm bill, which threatens food security and local agriculture in North Texas.

🚨 What’s at Risk:

1️⃣ Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) Program
This program allowed food banks to buy fresh produce from local farms. Cutting it means:

• Less fresh food in schools and food pantries
• Lost income for local farmers

2️⃣ SNAP (Food Stamps) Restrictions
The bill would:

• Force states to pay up to 75% of admin costs and a portion of SNAP benefits
• Make it harder to qualify—requiring 20+ hours/week of work, even for seniors up to age 65
• Disqualify more people in need, especially part-time workers and low-income families

🍎 Why It Matters:

North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) serves 13 counties where 1 in 7 people face hunger.

• Over 777,000 people are food insecure
• Dallas County alone accounts for over half of this need

✊ We Demand:

• NO to cuts to LFPA and SNAP
• YES to continued federal funding for local food programs
• NO to unfunded mandates on states and working families
Help us protect food access and local farms in Texas.
