Reduce Exorbitant Water Rates in Madeira Served by Indian Hill Water Municipality
The Issue
I recently received a water bill from Indian Hill Water Works that was $700! I reached out to neighbors after feeling shock, anger and frustration. It has become clear that we are not alone in this struggle. It seems many of us in Madeira have fallen victim to these sky-high water bills. This astonishing surge in water prices is not reasonable for the hard-working members of our community. We want Madeira to be an affordable place to reside.
RECENT RATE HIKES:
According to the information on the Indian Hill Water Works website, Madeira has been subjected to several recent hikes in our water bills. This unreasonable surge in water prices is not only distressing but also an implicit threat to our basic right to safe and affordable water.
-Madeira: 41% water rate surcharge effective February 1, 2024 approved to create a restricted capital fund which can only be used for water main improvements in the Madeira distribution system, serving Madeira customers. Surcharge is $2.44 per CCF
-Indian Hill Village Council approved an 6% water rate increase for all customers effective July 1, 2024
NORMAL OHIO WATER BILLS:
According to the 2022 Ohio Sewer and Water Rate Survey, the average rates for a model household consuming 4000 gallons/month are as follows:
-$489.95 annually for sewer
-$476.93 annually for water
-$46.20 annually for stormwater
Combined this totals $1013 annually, or $84 monthly, or $253 quarterly.
It seems clear that Madeira's working families are being subjected to a disproportionately high financial burden. It is a scenario that warrants immediate rectification.
ACTIONS REQUESTED:
-Get Madeira water bills into normal range for the state.
MEANS BY WHICH TO ACHIEVE THIS:
-Get Maderia residents being served by Indian Hill Water Works onto Cincinnati water immediately.
-Renegotiate rates with Indian Hill Water Works to be effective by next quarter.
We urgently need Maderia City Council to demand the Indian Hill Water Municipality to revisit their pricing policies and keep Madeira's hard-working families' interests at the forefront and get our community's water prices into the normal range. It's not just about numbers on a bill. It's about maintaining our town's affordability and quality of life. Every citizen who signs this petition helps move us one step closer to achieving that.
There is influence in numbers! Please consider signing this petition and sharing the link with your neighbors to bring about a significant change.
