On Tuesday we travelled on the 4.08am ferry to the mainland to attend an interview on ABC Breakfast News in Brisbane. Thank you to all those who listened when it went to air.
I spoke about the history of the OPS parking problem and was able to report our concern. It appeared to be received well by Loretta and Craig (interviewers). Gabrielle Neaves was then invited to speak about the song released by older island residents to draw attention to our plight. The song has been successful in attracting a large amount of attention – including from media sources. Our thanks to Patti and The Grundys who participate in the group. The ABC Producer is keen to see the next song release - hopefully giving us another opportunity to speak on behalf of OPS.
After our interview, Peter Kelley ( CEO, Redlands Investment Corporation – RIC) was interviewed. It was difficult for him to respond in a way that was acceptable to the interviewers who raised the concern that nothing was being done until 2025. Peter has a long history in private development which we had expressed was not affordable by our islanders.
We will continue to keep the pressure up. We thank those who are sharing the song. The number of views are increasing rapidly and it is assisting our cause with People Power which, in turn, is putting more pressure on the Council and State Government to speak with us. They are watching us and are reacting from the pressure.
If you have not already viewed the song, this is the link. Please share to get the message out. Every view gives us more power.
