Redirect Social Security Taxes to Personal Retirement Accounts

The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about my financial future, I am disheartened by the knowledge that my social security taxes are almost equal to my 401(k) contributions, and worse still, they don't have the opportunity to grow over time through investment. Instead, the fund, designated for retirement, is used by the government for other purposes. According to the Social Security Administration, if nothing changes, the fund is projected to be depleted by 2034. Yet, we, as hardworking contributors to this system, are bound to this potentially failing system with no alternatives.

We demand a change.

The government should not have carte blanche access to our contribution without providing a choice. If the ultimate goal is to support retirement funding, then people should have an option to redirect their social security taxes to their own personal retirement plans like a 401(k) or an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). These accounts provide the advantage of compounding, which allows for potential growth of principal over time, addressing the need for sustainability and confidence in our retirement future.

This option could aid in securing a more reliable path to retirement for millions of Americans, promoting individual control in the face of a rapidly changing economic climate.

The misuse of our contributions without alternate options is unjust. Stand with us in demanding a shift in the allocation of our own retirement funds. Sign this petition to urge our legislators to enact a law that permits redirecting our Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts. We want the opportunity to secure our financial future without depending on unstable and unsustainable government funds.
