Good news! As of today, this petition to redesignate Arlington House as a National Historic Site has signers in 433 of the nation's 435 Congressional Districts (CD). Last week New Hampshire's 1st CD was added to the list. HOW CAN YOU HELP? If you know anyone in your network who lives in one of these districts (IN-09 or PA-09) or has connections to people in these districts, please ask for their help and support. Let's get all 435 Congressional Districts represented.

Outstanding and there is more good news! The number of signatures on this petition is about to pass 4,500. July 22nd will mark the two-year anniversary since this petition was established. We have been increasing the numbers steadily with your help. While the number of supporters continues to rise and the online petition currently shows a goal of 5,000 signatures, our intent is to gain the support of many, many more people whose voices will join yours in the call to Congress to begin the process of acknowledging that sites like Arlington House can educate and inspire citizens by being inclusive of the narrative and the history that exists there. There is so much to discover and learn at Arlington House.

The most important take away is that this legislation DOES NOT seek to remove Robert E. Lee from the narrative. Anyone who interprets the legislation as such is mistaken. Regardless of one's own opinion about Lee, he was part of the the history in this space. Important milestones in his life took place at Arlington House: he married Mary Anna Randolph Custis in 1831 in the parlor, he helped raise 4 girls and 3 boys, he drafted his letter of resignation from the U.S. Army and signed it in the Arlington House. Lee is an integral part of the narrative. But Lee's story is neither THE story nor the only narrative at Arlington House. There are many other men, women and children who lived, worked and died in this space who have a narrative that must be given agency, shared with visitors and are worthy of equal attention given to Lee.

Thank you for your support. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Continue to help us, won't you?  Pass the word about this petition and that it is worthy of support by others. Take a few minutes to seek the support of your members of Congress to support this legislation.
