Last week we reached 100 members of Congress who have become cosponsors of H.J. Res. 76. This is pretty amazing and we could not have done it with out your help. We now have signatures in 432 of 435 Congressional District (CD).
We have surpassed 3,860 signatures and at least four of those were in congressional districts that were not represented previously. The three remaining CDs where we want to contact supporters of the legislation are: Rep. Erin Houchin IN-09, south-central Indiana that includes Seymour, IN and the northern suburbs Louisville, KY; Rep. Daniel Meuser PA-09, in east-central Pennsylvania, containing much of PA's coal region, all or part of 11 counties and is bisected by the Susquehanna River; and Rep. Chris Pappas NH-01, in the southern and the eastern portion of New Hampshire where Manchester, the largest city, and the University of New Hampshire are located. Please help us to sweep support from all 435 Congressional Districts by reaching out to your friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances in these locations of the country and ask them to look at the petition. and sign it
During my volunteer docent duties at the Arlington House this weekend, we spoke to approximately 450 visitor over two days. There were lots of 8th graders visiting DC from TX, FL, MI and IA. We met people visiting from 20-30 states, including WY and at least 10 foreign countries. Nearly every adult thanked us for the work we are doing, are supportive of the descendants efforts and said the idea of being more inclusive about the interpretation at Arlington House is a "no brainer."
We provided a very productive briefing to the NAACP Seattle King County Branch this week too! I am very pleased to report that they support this descendants' initiative and will be sharing word of their support with other NAACP branches in the Pacific Northwest.
