Happy New Year. This is the first of two related posts. Please be sure to read the other update regarding how you can support upcoming congressional visits. In 2023 we gained exactly ..... 2,023 more signatures. Our petition is about to reach 3,400 signatures in support of H.J. Res. 76: that's 68% of our modest target goal of 5,000 signatures. Thanks to everyone who has supported this effort to date.
Several notable individuals and organizations have shared their support for this initiative (see the attached list). Most recently, acclaimed writer, poet and author, Clint Smith (How the Word is Passed) has expressed his support. Dr. Smith recently published an article in The Atlantic magazine titled ‘Arlington’s Civil War Legacy Is Finally Laid to Rest’ which gives some thought to understanding the larger history of the land where a recently removed Confederate memorial once sat: now Arlington National Cemetery and prior to that the land where the Arlington House plantation home of Robert E. Lee and his family is located.
Of the 435 Congressional Districts in the United States, 428 districts have at least one signature. Seven (7) Congressional Districts do not yet have a signature. We want to change that. Here are the Congressional Districts without a signature: GA-06 (northern Atlanta); IL-13 (Champaign, Urbana, most of Decatur and Springfield); IN-09 (Bloomington, south suburbs of Indianapolis to the Indiana side of the Louisville metropolitan area); MN-02 (South Suburbs of the Twin Cities); NH-01 (Dover, Portsmouth & Manchester); PA-09 (East central PA); and WI-07 (northwestern and central Wisconsin). If you have friends, family or colleagues in any of these Districts, please pass along the petition information and ask them to join our effort and sign the petition.
