Redesign Dallas's Flag

Redesign Dallas's Flag
The Issue
These are a few redesign concepts for the flag of Dallas, Texas, centered around the Pegasus, a widely recognized and beloved symbol of the city. I aimed to stylize the Pegasus in a star-shaped form (with the exception of one variant) to pay homage to the original flag's prominent white star-a nod to Texas's identity as the Lone Star State and a common motif in municipal flags across the state. While the current Dallas flag mainly gestures to the state's symbolism, it lacks distinct references to the city itself. In these redesigns, l have retroactively added meaningful symbolism to retained elements:
• The white horizontal line now represents the Trinity River, a defining geographic feature of Dallas.
• The red, white, and blue tricolor reflects the city's civic values: progress (red), unity (white), and industry (blue).
At the heart of the design is the Pegasus, originally associated with the Magnolia Oil Company. It has since become an enduring emblem of Dallas-representing the city's roots in the energy sector, as well as broader ideals of ambition, innovation, and guidance. The Pegasus not only grounds the design in local history, but also speaks to Dallas's dynamic, forward-looking spirit.
