Questions from the group:
Is there going to be building in local retail site where Wickes and Currys stands? There appears to be plans to build along the whole Cross Rail corridor
Is it worth speaking to local businesses on this retail park?
Redbridge Local Plan is a legal document passed in 2018. This has information about 200 sites for development. The developers are using this. Plan was to allow 770 units on this site . Why have they doubled this to 1280?
Next tier above the Redbridge Local Plan is the ‘London Plan’ We need to challenge at the local level and also the London Plan level as this gives licence to London Boroughs to go ahead with their plans.

Sam Tarry spoke and points below:

Church mtg in Goodmayes 18 months ago last year had 250 people attending

Higher unemployment due to impact of coronavirus means that we need more places that are social/council/affordable housing. We have a genuine case as this development is not meeting the targets set by the Redbridge and Local Plan for affordable housing

Local council needs to support people from our local community to buy or rent these properties. Not in interests of community of Goodmayes and Seven Kings. Issues of properties bought by overseas buyers for rental properties which local people cannot afford as first time and home buyers. Also rents are already astronomical in the area. Similar thing happened at Pioneer point and flats by Barking Station.

Local Council needs to be concerned about how the development is serving the needs of our local community

Questions to Sam Tarry:

Concerns that the Local Council wants to restrict the ‘Public speaking Cabinet’?

We need to think about how local democracy functions.

Question asked about the Governments Green Recovery Plan. How does this development relate to that?

Sam Tarry talked about the ‘Build Back Better’ and responsibilities of Local Businesses.

AW – play close attention to what the London Councillor candidates are saying – Judith Garfield, Keith Prince. Bob Littlewood is against the development.

Sam Tarry – Local Council Elections coming up in 2022- If we get in touch with our local councillors as individual residents then this is more powerful and they will start to listen.

AW talked about link on Redbridge website to contact your local councillor.

Pollution levels need to be taken at a time when we have more ‘normal life’ ie not at current time when traffic and pollution is less.

AW asked Sam Tarry about speaking to Chadwell councillor John Cruddas ( Barking and Dagenham council) re joining the campaign.
