The Issue

Please add your name if you want Red Funnel to publish clearer information for passengers and residents about how the service is run and how its long-term future is being planned.

Red Funnel is not just another private company. For generations its ferries have been one of the Isle of Wight’s most important links with the mainland. Islanders and visitors rely on them for work, family life, healthcare, tourism and the local economy.

People who depend on the service should be able to find straightforward information about how the company is organised and how decisions that affect daily crossings are made.

In 2025 Red Funnel was acquired by Njord Partners, a UK investment firm. The change of ownership came after years of public concern about fares, reliability and investment. Residents can read more here.

None of this alleges wrongdoing. It simply asks for clear, public information about a service Islanders use every day.

Caulkheads for Transparency, a local community group, is asking Red Funnel to publish plain answers to the following:

How is Red Funnel organised today, and how do Njord Partners, the board and management work together in practice?
How are decisions made about fares, timetables, investment, vessels and the long-term future of the service?
How are commercial and operational risks reviewed when those decisions are made?
How are the needs of passengers and Island residents taken into account?
Please add your name and share this page if you want clearer information about the future of this essential Island service.
