Rectify Operational Failures at Manchester Airport: Fair Treatment Demand

The Issue

Petition Summary

We submit this petition to address systemic issues faced by private hire drivers at Manchester Airport, resulting from the operational practices of Manchester Airport Group (MAG).

Key Systematic Failures:

1. Insufficient Parking Space: Overcrowded parking with a single entry and exit terminal for hundreds of drivers leads to long queues, trapped zones, and hours of delays. Unmarked bays cause verbal altercations and vehicle damage from door collisions.

2. Malfunctioning Barriers: Persistent technical faults cause delays, job cancellations, and unfair fines. A single exit for over 100 drivers results in compact traffic zones, road rage, and frequent disputes impacting driver wellbeing & undermining customer experience which is then reflected on driver feedback metrics.

3. Unreasonable Parking Time Limits: The 90-minute parking limit is impractical, as job allocation times often exceed this window. Drivers are forced to pay repeatedly to retain queue positions, incurring unjustified costs.

4. Duplicate Payment Charges: Drivers are double-charged for waiting areas and terminal exits without proper refunds. Despite logs confirming payment glitches, refunds are rarely processed, with MAG retaining these payments.

5. Unsanitary Facilities (Health & Safety Hazard): Washrooms are often flooded, lack soap, toilet paper, and proper sanitation, posing health risks to drivers.

6. Vehicle Damage: Poorly maintained parking areas with potholes, inadequate lighting, and sharp edges damage vehicles. Cones are placed over potholes instead of repairing them.

7. Hostile Treatment: Drivers face harassment and threats from MAG staff and police. Requests for access to waiting areas or addressing systemic issues are met with fines, bans, and card cancellations, undermining their ability to work.

We urge MAG to ensure legal compliance, and demand immediate corrective actions to address these critical issues.
