We, the students of Sayre Highschool, have been subjected to a decision that we find unjust. The administration has banned phones during lunch without first consulting our parents. Our lunch break is a crucial time for us to relax, connect with our friends and family, and gather news updates that may affect us, which is usually done through our phones. For many students, it might also be the only free time or access they have to a phone all day. A study by the Pew Research Center reveals that 95% of teenagers have access to a smartphone and 45% are online on a near-constant basis. Banning phones during lunch impedes our free access to our personal devices which have become an essential tool in our daily lives. We request a reconsideration of this decision and call for a more inclusive dialogue involving all relevant stakeholders. Stand with us.
