Recognize Humanity Over Corporate Entities and “Party Lines” in a Broken System
The Issue
I have recently become disabled due to many broad and chronic health issues that have plagued my life, culminating in a traumatic brain injury two years ago. At just 39 years old, I find myself navigating a world that often seems indifferent to the challenges I face. This isn’t one of those “Look at me I’m a victim of my ailments and I need your sympathy” situations. But rather, this is a “We’re all victims of a blatantly horrible system” situation. If tears are shed, shed them for the the physical, mental, social, political and digital violence that our country is currently and collectively experiencing. My personal experience has been a wake-up call, revealing the rampant ableism embedded within our society. Through this new reality, I've observed the deeper connections between the vast array of different forms of segregation that persist in our systems. I’ve seen and am seeing heinous perversions of justice, one’s that were and are meant to protect us - now infiltrate our country and our fellow humans from see to shining sea. Innocence lost. Common sense bludgeoned into a mess of status quo.
It's evident that the societal frameworks we rely on treat corporate entities with more regard than individual human lives. Corporations operating under the guise of entities are often given more rights and power than the people who run them. This only serves to deepen divides among us, especially for those who are most vulnerable.
I believe that the United States government, alongside both for-profit and non-profit organizations, should treat individuals with the respect and dignity they deserve, recognizing them as human beings first and foremost. Each person, regardless of social status, class, race, culture, or heritage, should be treated as an equal reflection of ourselves.
The key to bridging these divides does not necessarily lie in shared religious or spiritual beliefs, but in embracing a universal, ethical principle – the Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be treated. It's a standard that is unarguable and transcends personal beliefs, offering a path towards equality and understanding.
This petition calls for a change in policy and practice at both government and organizational levels. By humanizing the systems that govern us, we can create a society where all individuals are seen, heard, and valued. Let's stand together to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable future where humanity triumphs over artificial divide. Sign this petition if you believe every human deserves dignity and respect beyond their circumstances or affiliations.
