Recognize Al-Berr Mosque as a Community-Driven Institution

The Issue

This petition holds great significance for us, the members of Alberr Mosque Community in Windsor, ON, Canada.

We have tirelessly fundraised and worked hard to support our mosque. It's not just a building to us; it's the heart of our community where we connect and grow together.

Our mosque is more than a place of worship; it's a cornerstone of our community, offering spiritual guidance, educational resources, and social support. Every member of our community has contributed to building it.

The decision to replace board members is a serious one, with implications beyond just the boardroom. We believe this decision should be reconsidered for several important reasons:

  1. The current board members to be replaced have shown strong dedication and skills in managing our organization.
  2. They understand our community and have implemented beneficial programs like Quran Memorization and Q&A Fridays.
  3. Losing them means losing valuable knowledge and experience that benefits our community.
  4. All current board members volunteered their time and energy without financial reward.

As a community, we have three questions for Salahedin Institute:

  1. Why are the current board members being removed?
  2. Why were new board members chosen without consulting the Muslim community in Windsor?
  3. Why wasn't the deal to make Alberr Mosque an independent entity never executed?

We also have three demands for Salahedin Institute:

  1. Stop the plan to remove the current board members.
  2. Only choose new board members based on input from the AlBerr Islamic Community.
  3. Make Alberr Mosque an independent entity of Salahedin Institution.

In conclusion, we urge local authorities and stakeholders to recognize our mosque as a community-driven institution owned by those who have worked hard for it. We ask the board to pause and consider the profound implications of replacing board members. Let's embrace inclusivity, collaboration, and our shared commitment to our organization's mission as we move forward.
