For too long, LGBTIQA+ Australians were rendered invisible by national data collection, leaving our communities without the vital evidence needed to secure appropriate resources, funding, and support. Thanks to our collective persistence, that changes now. The inclusion of questions addressing sexual orientation and gender identity in the census marks a historic turning point for our community.  

By completing these critical questions in the current census, we are doing much more than just ticking boxes - we are building an undeniable blueprint of our community's existence. Accurate data helps direct essential funding where it is genuinely needed. It provides governments, healthcare providers, and community organizations with the precise evidence required to properly resource targeted mental health support, gender-affirming healthcare, suicide prevention programs, and inclusive social services.

When we stand up and fill out these questions accurately, we ensure that no future policy can pretend we aren't here. Thank you for helping to make visibility a reality.
