HHS Seeks Public Input to Improve Access to Deceased Donor Islet Cell Treatment

This is your opportunity to speak directly to HHS about the future of deceased donor islet cells (DDIs) and their potential to expand treatment options for people living with Type 1 diabetes.
HHS is seeking public input as it considers how deceased donor islet cells and islet cell products should be regulated for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. Public comments can help shape future policy and ensure that the voices of people directly affected by T1D are part of the conversation.
Comments will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on November 9, 2026.

Not sure what to write? Organizations and advocates including Breakthrough T1D Advocacy, Katie Beth Hand, and BainyBT1D have shared helpful examples on social media. Most importantly, tell your story. Explain why access to islet cell therapies, research, and future treatment options matters to you, your family, or someone you love.
Every comment matters. Every story matters.
If you haven't already, please share this petition with your family, friends, diabetes community, healthcare providers, and anyone who believes people with T1D deserve access to every promising treatment option.
Thank you for signing, commenting, and helping raise awareness. I will include the petition and supporter count in my own submission to HHS as evidence of the strong community support behind this effort.
Together, our voices can help move this conversation forward.
