Sen. Lee is pushing the Department of Health and Human Services to reclassify islet cells as organs

This week brought some encouraging news.

A new article reports that HHS is now "actively reviewing" Senator Mike Lee's request to reclassify deceased donor islet cells as organs. Senator Lee, who introduced the ISLET Act, has made it clear that he believes HHS already has the authority to make this change administratively and is urging Secretary Kennedy to act.

Reclassification won't solve everything. There aren't enough donor pancreases to help all 2 million Americans living with T1D. But it could help thousands more people gain access to life-changing islet transplants and help accelerate promising research and clinical trials that may benefit future generations.

The more attention this issue receives, the harder it becomes to ignore.
