Reclaim Community Access to the Berner Street Field opposite the local playgroup
The Issue
I am a resident of Birkenhead, and for years, my family along with our entire community have cherished the Berner Street Field outside our local playgroup. It was more than just a field; it was a hub of joy, unity and love. We used to host play days, parties, live music events where children could freely play while adults enjoyed each other's company. These gatherings were not only fun-filled but also served as fundraisers for the non-profit play centre across the road that has been instrumental in supporting many parents with their little ones' growth and learning.
However, we no longer have access to this vital community space. This change has deeply affected us all - from children who lost their playground to parents who relied on these gatherings for support and camaraderie.
Birkenhead/Wirral is home to over 320,221 thousand people (Office for National Statistics), many of whom have been impacted by this loss. The closure of this field is not just an inconvenience; it's a blow to our community spirit.
We urge local authorities to reestablish our right to use this field as we used to do before - for communal activities that foster unity among residents while supporting important causes like the non-profit play centre.
While we recognise the unavoidable path of development, we plead for the ongoing enjoyment of this space until the call of construction becomes imminent.
Let's bring back those unforgettable days when laughter echoed through our neighbourhoods and love was palpable in every corner! Sign this petition today so we can reclaim what once brought us together as one big family!
