Recast Xavier Thorpe on Netflix's 'Wednesday'

Recast Xavier Thorpe on Netflix's 'Wednesday'
The Issue
Netflix's hit show "Wednesday" has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide with its brilliant storytelling, engaging aesthetic, and unique take on the beloved Addams Family narrative. However, one essential element that has garnered significant discussion among fans is the portrayal of the character Xavier Thorpe.
Xavier Thorpe is pivotal in unfolding various story arcs and providing depth to the plot. However, the allegations of SA surrounding the actor portraying him led to the character being written out of the show. While I am wary of bringing him back despite his lack of a conviction, I do not like how we allow the actor to own the character we've come to root for onscreen.
Recasting the role allows for the story to flow more smoothly and to provide better closure on Xavier's storyline in the show than the write-off did. He shouldn't return as Wednesday's love interest, as it works for neither of them as characters. No, a friendship would be more in-line with the pair than romance ever could.
While Season 2 of the show has thus far done a fair job at coping with his absence, the loss is still felt with their being a visible void left by Thorpe's departure from Nevermore Academy. Bringing him back in Season 3 would rectify that and allow for a stronger story.
Now, the actor playing Xavier, Percy Hynes White, has chosen not to return to the role after a series of sexual misconduct allegations surfaced on Twitter in 2023. While I don't know if they are true, I do know for a fact that White has chosen not to return and thus the character was written out of the show. However, I see this as a poor decision in the long run, as Xavier proved himself to be a formidable and relatable character in his own right alongside Wednesday, and helped to serve as her grounding anchor throughout the first season. Thus, I advocate a less hasty approach.
Join us in urging Netflix to rethink and recast Xavier Thorpe for a revitalized and enriched "Wednesday" viewing experience. This will not only enhance the show but send a message that actors do not affect characters or our feelings for them! Please sign and help make this change a reality!
