We are calling for age-appropriate and race-accurate casting that respects the spirit of the original text and enhances its storytelling.

Age-Appropriate Casting

Heathcliff, Catherine, and other central characters are very young when much of the story takes place. Casting actors who accurately reflect the age of these characters during the key moments of the narrative is crucial to capturing the rawness and passion that define their relationships. It is essential that future adaptations feature actors whose ages align with the stages of life described in the novel, ensuring that the themes of youthful desire, naivety, and later disillusionment are authentically conveyed. 

Race-Accurate Casting: While many adaptations have cast Heathcliff as a white character, textual evidence from the novel strongly suggests that Heathcliff was of mixed-race or Romani descent. Descriptions of Heathcliff include references to him as a "dark-skinned gypsy," and his status as an outsider in the rigid social hierarchy of 18th-century England is an important thematic element.
