Call to Action: Urge the Sunnyside City Council to recall the appointment of Theresa Hancock

Enough is enough. Since the rushed and unvetted appointment of Theresa Hancock in March—without interviews, community input, or a transparent process—our City Council has spiraled into dysfunction. What should have been a step toward progress has instead led to chaos.

The role of a councilmember is to lead with integrity—seeking transparency, collaborating with fellow council members and staff, and serving ALL members of the community.

But instead, we've witnessed the exact opposite. Since her appointment, Hancock has unleashed a relentless wave of hostility: dozens of aggressive emails and texts to staff, and over 65 public records requests—not for transparency, but as a weapon.

The impact? Our city has had to pause essential services by closing down city hall just to keep up with her demands. Critical time and resources are being drained, not to serve the public, but to manage the fallout of one person's unchecked behavior.

This isn’t governance. It’s disruption and our community is paying the price.

Additionally, the harassment of city employees and obstruction of progress have become the norm.

Multiple complaints have been filed against Hancock for discrimination and creating a hostile work environment—particularly targeting city employees of color. These dedicated public servants are now facing mental distress, adverse health effects, and a toxic workplace that drives them away.

And what’s even more troubling is that she has a history of doing this.

Meanwhile, our city is facing a multi-million dollar deficit. We simply cannot afford continued harassment, wasted resources, or the loss of experienced, committed staff. Every resignation, every legal filing, every ounce of dysfunction costs us more—financially and morally.

It’s time to act. Show up. Speak out. Demand accountability. Let's end the harm, protect our workers and community, and move our city forward—together.

Recall the appointment of Theresa Hancock immediately.
