This spring our school committee was going through the process of finding a new superintendent for the Easthampton Public School District. After narrowing it down to three candidates, the town rejoiced when news of Dr. Vito Perrones selection as the new superintendent. This felt like a homecoming for both Vito and the town, we have missed him greatly since his time as the principal of EHS. Vito is a dedicated educator and administrative leader, the job was not about the money for him either as he was taking a $14,000 pay-cut to come back to our district.For the first time in a long the local townspeople felt positive about the future of our education system. Within a matter of days the offer was rescinded on the apparent grounds of a “micro aggression”. The act in question is using the term “ladies” in an email (in a warm, respectful and kind manner). Not only does this sudden rescinding feel suspicious but it seems there is a personal agenda at work and possible sexist behaviors against a wonderful man. When trying to make their points against his selection some members referred to Vito as a “prom king” simply because he is likeable. This kind of attitude has no place is EPSD. I am calling for the recall of ALL members as the entire board is tainted and we need board members with the districts best interests at heart in these posts.
