How many times does I-40 have to collapse before state leaders take this seriously?

Once again, I-40 at the North Carolina-Tennessee border has been destroyed — this time by heavy rain and a massive rockslide. Families were trapped. Cars were submerged. First responders rushed to save lives. And this comes just months after the same stretch was rebuilt following flooding from Hurricane Helene.

This is not just bad luck. This is a repeated failure to prepare for the kind of storms we all know are coming.

North Carolina is getting hit harder and more often by extreme weather. But I-40 keeps getting rebuilt like it's 1995. Patchwork repairs and short-term fixes are not enough. Every collapse puts Charlotte commuters, truckers, tourists, and emergency responders in danger — again and again.
