I have contacted our elected officials and will update you all with their response once the come in. I expect to get their responses back at some point this week. Below is the communication I sent to them.
Dear Elected Members of Arizona,
My name is Aaron Medley. I am an Arizona native and US citizen. I believe in the US constitution and believe it to be the law of the land. When you took office you swore an oath to uphold the US Constitution above all else. I am writing you today, on behalf of not only myself, but on behalf of all of those that took the time to sign a petition I started just over a week ago. In this time frame I have gain almost 50,000 signatures, that I have attached to this email, that show they do not support recently purposed legislation including SB 1625. This petition is still live, and growing every hour. We are all voters, and we are watching how issues like this are handled, in order to help us make informed decisions during election cycles. The live petition can be viewed here http://chng.it/XgSmd6RL
We the people, of the great state of Arizona, DO NOT support SB1624, SB 1625, and SB1626.We find the langue in these bills to be not only an infringement upon our 2nd Amendment rights but also our 4th, 5th and 14th amendment rights as well. Support of these proposed bills is not only unconstitutional, it is appalling and a travesty against the people of Arizona. The signers of this petition also do not support the following elected officials: Rebecca Rios, David Bradley, Andrea Dalessandro, Sally Ann Gonzales, Juan Mendez, Tony Navarrete, Lisa Otondo, Jameschita Peshlakai, Martin Quezada, Victoria Steele, Lela Alston and Lupe Contreras. We find these elected officials have failed at their oath of office.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms. Any proposed laws that go against these ruling is unconstitutional and Arizona citizens will not stand for it.
Limiting our rights in exchange for security is the wrong answer to preventing violence and laws such as SB1625 only take firearms away from law abiding citizens. It does nothing to curb violence and does nothing to prevent criminals from breaking the law.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to your responses,
