Petition to support the return of Ellie, the school therapy dog, to Morton Middle School.

Petition to support the return of Ellie, the school therapy dog, to Morton Middle School.
The Issue
We, the undersigned students, parents, faculty, and staff of Morton Middle School in Fayette County, unite to express our deep concerns regarding the recent decision made by the Fayette County Schools Superintendent, which bars Ellie, our beloved school therapy dog, from returning to campus for the upcoming school year.
Ellie has been an invaluable presence in our school community, providing emotional support, promoting mental well-being, and fostering a positive learning environment. Her friendly nature and genuine compassion have touched the lives of countless students and staff, inspiring feelings of comfort, happiness, and security within our school.
The presence of a therapy dog like Ellie has proven to be instrumental in reducing stress levels, improving student-staff relationships, and enhancing overall academic performance. Numerous studies have highlighted the psychological and physiological benefits of animal-assisted therapy, including reduced anxiety, increased focus, enhanced emotional regulation, and improved self-esteem. Ellie has undoubtedly played a significant role in achieving these outcomes for our student body.
By excluding Ellie from our school, we fear that the emotional well-being of our students will be compromised. As we navigate the challenges and uncertainties brought about by the ongoing pandemic and the accompanying academic pressures, Ellie's absence will be sorely felt. Her positive influence has been especially vital during these trying times, offering a ray of hope when it feels like the world is engulfed in darkness.
We kindly urge the Fayette County Schools Superintendent to reconsider their decision and allow Ellie, the school therapy dog, to return to Morton Middle School for next school year. We believe that Ellie's presence enhances our educational experience, fosters a supportive environment, and contributes significantly to the holistic development of our students.
Please join us in signing this petition and showing our collective support for Ellie. By doing so, we express our shared conviction that every student deserves access to the proven benefits of therapy dogs, and that Ellie's return to Morton Middle School is crucial for the emotional well-being and success of our educational community.
Let us come together to ensure that future generations also have the opportunity to experience the comfort and support that Ellie provides. Sign this petition, share it with others, and let our voices be heard!
Together, we can make a difference and bring back Ellie, our cherished school therapy dog.
