Please write a letter to DEQ by Monday January 4 using our online tool here.
Tragically, RDUAA recently resubmitted their request to DEQ to cross streams and wetlands with a chain-linked, barbed-wire fence, including 30ft of deforested swath along the border of William B. Umstead State Park and crossings of Haley’s Branch and forested wetlands. They still plan a patrol road along the fence. DEQ denied their permit the first time, DEQ should deny again. The plan still proposes to cut off the Reedy Creek Multi-Use Trail within Umstead State Park!
Please write a letter to ask DEQ to uphold denial of RDU Airport's fence proposal in order to protect not only the Umstead State Park, but also the Neuse River Buffer's streams and wetlands. We've set up the Action Network to make it easy for your letter to be sent to the RDUAA, and local elected officials. Ask them to withdraw this request; it damages the park and is an environmental tragedy. Please write a short letter by Monday, January 4. This link will walk you through - quick and easy.
Thank you for helping to protect our park!
