Here's a great opportunity for you to help Stop the RDU Quarry and protect Umstead State Park. Please help by submitting online comments today opposing Wake Stone's mining permit application.
Wake Stone has submitted their mining permit application to DEQ (NC Dept. of Environmental Quality) for review. We need comments sent to DEQ and local elected officials to help enable them to do the right thing and deny the permit. We created an easy way for you to send them your comments. It’ll just take a few minutes — you can write a couple sentences, a couple paragraphs or more! Your comments will be sent as an email to the offices of DEQ, Governor Cooper and all local elected officials in Durham and Wake County and the Cities of Raleigh and Durham.
Reasons Why The Permit Application Can Be Denied:
By State Law, the mining permit application can be denied for any of the following reasons:
- Adverse effect on the purposes of a publicly owned park, forest or recreation area
- Adverse effects on potable groundwater supplies, wildlife or freshwater
- Violate standards of air quality, surface water quality, or groundwater quality
- Hazard to public health and safety
- Hazard to a neighboring dwelling house, school, church, commercial or industrial building, public road or other public property
Be sure your comments relate to one of these five reasons for denial.
Our goal is to get hundreds of public comments - with your help we can get there!
