Wow, we hope you're getting out on the trails and enjoying the amazing weather in the Triangle this weekend! We’ve been very busy behind the scenes, and wanted to update you on progress. Also, we need your help once again. Wake County, NC State Parks, and The Conservation Fund are collaborating on a solution for preserving trails. Please take a moment to read about it here: http://www.rduforest.com/solution As you may know, RDU staff has so far declined to sell the Odd Fellows tract for permanent preservation, and instead has initiated an RFP process to lease the land. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO EMAIL YOUR CITY AND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ASAP, asking them to support the following: 1) The RDU Airport Authority should accept The Conservation Fund offer to purchase the Odd Fellows tract (RFP Parcel 1, Solution Tract B). The offer is Fair Market value and the FAA has confirmed the airport can sell this land for a park. 2) The RDU Airport Authority should accept an offer by Wake County to lease lands for recreational trail use (RFP Parcel 1&2; Solution Tract B). 3) The community strongly OPPOSES a new industrial quarry on the Odd Fellows tract. This quarry would destroy amazingly stunning and environmentally sensitive lands adjacent to Umstead State Park and Crabtree Creek.
