Keep Up Goosewoman Display!
I want to provide you with a backstory behind my strange decorations.
So for quite some time I have been dealing with harassment from the city of Raytown involving the appearance of my yard, I have received countless petty code violations. I reached out to my community and found that many others have dealt with the same issues I had been facing and were also upset with the ordinance and how they conduct their business. I got so tired of it I decided to use my negative energy and annoyance towards the city and turn it into something fun spirited and harmless but I still wanted to send a message with my approach. So april of this year I began a Tiktok series where I made silly weird decorations to put in my yard as a way to protest my cities strict ordinance. Seeing that the city felt so bothered by ordinary and petty things like having a pile of sticks in my yard as I was ACTIVELY doing yard work and trying to improve the appearance of the property, and having boxes on my porch from when I had a yard sale (signs still up) I wanted to create something ridiculous, obvious, and harmless for them to see the next time they drive by my house and try to find another little petty thing to write me up for. I extensively read and researched the city codes and ordnance’s and made sure I complied with everything in the ordnance as I did not intend to be unlawful with this approach. September 14th I received a letter in the mail from the city, It was a code violation for my yard decor! they labeled it as a nuisance. I read the code they put the violation under and it doesn’t fit the legal description of a nuisance other than one example which basically states that the city and state are able to determine if something is or isn’t a nuisance even if it doesn’t fit the legal description. I believe this is just plain harassment at this point, I have no idea how yard decorations could or should be classified as legally unlawful or harmful to anyone and I believe this could even possibly be an infringement on my right to freedom of speech as some of my decor has political themes, as well as a violation on my right to protest.
I would love to have some extra pressure put on the city to feel like I have some amount of power in this situation.
