Create a memorial to Trans Activist Marsha P. Johnson in Hoboken, NJ

Create a memorial to Trans Activist Marsha P. Johnson in Hoboken, NJ

The Issue

November 20, 2021 marked Trans Day of Remembrance. With nearly two months left, 2021 has shattered the U.S. record of transgender homicides in a year with 45 to date, most of them Black or Latinx.

As a way to commemorate both these trans deaths as well as those who have been murdered in decades before, we ask the City of Hoboken to create a memorial remembering Marsha P. Johnson, who was an influential Trans Activist and Hoboken resident when she was found dead in the Hudson River.

This memorial will bring awareness to the trans community in Hoboken, Jersey City, and beyond, and allow Hoboken to be a more inclusive place by making it clear that LGBTQ+ identities are valid and supported by our community.
