Remove the Statue of Thomas Fallon

Remove the Statue of Thomas Fallon
Why this petition matters
Thomas Fallon was a San Jose Mayor who is historically known for raising the American Flag in San Jose before California became American property. Fallon was known to dislocate residents, abuse, lynch, and slaughter Mexicans during his time as a politician and Captain in the Mexican American war. While his legacy is known to be one of the founding fathers of modern day City of San Jose, to Mexicans who have to see the large statue, it's a reminder of our oppression, deprivation, and lack of civil rights.
The Thomas Fallon statue has always been controversial to the Mexican population in San Jose. After much time and work by Chicano activists, the statue spent a decade in storage before finally being installed in 1990, making it a focal point of W. Saint James Street.
Mexican Americans are one of the largest ethnic groups in San Jose. Because of this reason, we demand that the city show us the respect we deserve in a city which we have pride and love for. Liberate us from the reminder of our gruesome history!
