* SAY NO TO HIGH RISES/OVER DEVELOPMENT AND NO TO THE GOVERNMENT SELLING TO PRIVATE DEVELOPERS *

*Nationals MP Minister M.Pavey together with the NSW Liberals want to bulldoze and knock down all existing Soldiers Settlement Estate dwellings and build multiple 8 story high rise apartments. 

*The proposal is to “help house more housing tenants” with dwelling units to which they say will only include 100-200 housing commission units, the rest will go for private sale.

*A total of 1685 dwellings to be exact. This doesn’t sound like they want to help build more housing units, the fact that they want to sell most of them for private. And we aren’t even 100% guaranteed there will be this number of community housing rentals. 

* 1685 new dwellings, ok let’s say for example: A family of 3 tenants or more that’s an extra 5055 people and let’s say each dwelling has multiple cars with only 1 car space, there will be an overspill of cars onto Anzac parade, Beauchamp road and other near by roads. 

* Also this area is one of the newest housing estates in the Eastern Suburbs with only 13% of housing in Matraville unlike other nearby community housing suburbs with a way higher housing percentage rate. The residences like myself have lived here and looked after their family homes for 35+ years. Many of the families that live here have big families of which they make use of there homes, backyards and parks. Kids play in the park or in our streets and families know they’re safe. We are a very quiet community, in our community everyone knows each other and looks out for one another this housing estate has come along way. Housing has rehoused families who care and value their homes and the last thing they need is this, we don’t deserve to lose our homes that we have become attached to and their children and family have also come to love. 

* The plan is to demolish and re home all tenants which will cost a lot more for the government to do so. But as a tenant we haven’t been told anything. If it wasn’t for Michael Daley our local MP we wouldn’t know anything about this development proposal.

*Yes some of these homes are in need of a refurbishment but let me stress they don’t NOT need to be knocked down. Many of these townhouses have been renovated by their own tenants at their own cost.

*The Eastern suburbs does NOT and I can’t stress this enough we do NOT need anymore HIGH RISES in this area. The eastern suburbs already is overcrowded and we do not need this eye sore nor do we need the influx of traffic to our community there is already complaints Anzac parade and near by roads struggle with existing traffic conditions. This will only make matters worse. 

* I fear this development hasn’t been throught through clearly and it worries me that they don’t care about us nor our community with this ludicrous proposal.  

*Please I am asking all Matraville residents and surroundings suburbs near and far we need your help more than ever to help us save our homes and save our suburb/community from another government project that clearly hasn’t thought of us nor been thought through enough.
