Brett Berry is a danger to the community and a liability to the police force. Through his actions, which were caught on video, he has shown that he is not opposed to breaking the law even though he is sworn to uphold it!  K9 Officer Boone did nothing to warrant the vicious attacks from Mr. Berry, yet he was used as a punching bag to alleviate Mr. Berry's frustrations over being embarrassed and kicked out of a casino.

Mr. Berry beat his K9 partner unprovoked, then when Boone tried to escape, he chased him down and beat him again. This clearly shows a man with anger and control issues. This is not someone who should be allowed to carry firearms, how do we know what might set him off the next time?

On January 12th, Brett Berry plead guilty to Count 2 – misdemeanor animal cruelty – and the plea deal dismisses Count 1 – misdemeanor assaulting a public safety dog. Judge Beiers deferred accepting the plea deal until sentencing which is scheduled on Wednesday, February 17, at 2:45 p.m. She could either accept the plea deal or not.

Our work now will continue to make sure the court does not accept his plea and we want a jury to decide his fate. We would also ask that the Ramsey County Sheriff's Dept cease Berry's employment. It is simply unacceptable for an officer to conduct himself in this manner and he doesn't deserve to wear a badge!
