Rally For Passion - Florence AL Skatepark Rebuild

Rally For Passion - Florence AL Skatepark Rebuild
The Issue
So here’s the entire story.
The skatepark in Florence Alabama is now 20+ years old and in a detrimental condition. Highly dangerous for anyone that isn’t extremely experienced at skateboarding (or any other device such as scooters, rollerblades, skates, etc.,) and has the potential to cause SERIOUS injury. It has never been given any sort of upkeep or maintenance and we have always just dealt with it.
Recently, the property that is home to the skatepark has been sold to UNA - in light of this, the skatepark will be leveled in the coming months in order to provide more parking area for UNA “sport events.”
Of course, this will leave everyone without a place to go safely learn to ride bikes, skateboard, scooters, rollerblades, roller skate, etc.
As of right now the city has absolutely no concrete plan to build a new park and everything they will tell you is simply to shut you up if you ask too many questions. They’ve proven that they want to sweep our community under the rug as much as possible. I have screenshots showing where they have illegally silenced our voices and directly violated our 1st Amendment Rights by deleting comments from their Facebook page voicing concerns about the condition and status of the skatepark that was FEDERALLY FUNDED with a GRANT. This means they have no choice but to have a park and they know this.
It is time for us to RALLY together as a community. We DESERVE a safe place to enjoy our passion. OUR CHILDREN deserve a safe place to learn and enjoy these sports without worrying about being harassed by police or business owners on the streets.
Skateparks are an absolutely essential piece of a modern society.
Skateparks affect local economy in a massively positive manner.
Skateparks keep kids off of the streets and off of drugs.
Skateparks build communities that lift each other up every single day.
The city of Florence DESERVES a skatepark.
