With much gratitude to all who participated, at least 2,371 “Art Letters for Lolita” have been delivered to Eduardo Albor - CEO of The Dolphin Company. On social media (including our “16,425 Days A Slave” Facebook group) I’ve frequently posted news of Tokitae and the change of ownership of Miami Seaquarium. Many groups and organizations have worked towards Tokitae’s return home. On Dec. 13 - ‘Friends of Toki’ (formerly ‘Friends of Lolita’) held “A Day of Listening” conference reported by Louis Aguirre (below), Local News 10 Miami, Anchor/Reporter, long time fellow advocate for Tokitae: Miami Seaquarium ‘100% committed’ to effort to retire captive orca. For the first time, the leadership of the Miami Seaquarium stated publicly that they are on board with efforts to retire the 56-year-old orca, known as Tokitae or Toki, to a sea pen in her native waters. The Seaquarium is “100% committed,” said Eduardo Albor, the chief executive officer of the Dolphin Company, the owner of the Miami Seaquarium. The considerations include moving the orca, formerly known as performer Lolita, out of the 80-foot long and 35-foot wide tank and into a more spacious enclosure. Before she can be moved, however, the hurdles are many and challenging.Federal regulatory agencies like NOAA and the USDA would need to approve such a move before it can happen and Toki, who was officially retired from performing in March, has been dealing with a serious respiratory illness ever since. Knowing of Tokitae enduring over 52 years, we are truly grateful for this official announcement. Please keep positive visions for her return to good health and return home. And be sure to watch for our posts and newsletter on the next action based on as what Louis also reported. Thank you! Origami Whales Project Women of the World united against Taiji
