Raise the US Flag from half-staff to Peak for Inauguration Day 2025

Raise the US Flag from half-staff to Peak for Inauguration Day 2025

The Issue

It is time to ensure the US Flag, that epitome of American ideals, remains a symbol of cohesion rather than division. It is my belief that Flag of the United States of America should be raised to its highest PEAK on Inauguration Day of President Trump in January 2025, and not to remain lowered at half-staff in mourning for our 39th Presidents passing. President Jimmy Carter so understood the symbolism of our great national flag that he Proclaimed National Flag Day and National Flag Week in 1977. To keep the Flag at half-staff for any Presidents Inauguration Day is not only contradictory to the very spirit of our President Carter’s Proclamation but degrades the honor for the Office of President of The United States that President Carter himself held.

On Inauguration Day, let us allow that all that our United States Flag stands for, all that we know it to symbolize, be celebrated and supersede all other circumstances or current events, as we honor our endurance as a Democracy and our past that encompasses all those who have served our country in all capacities great and small. As this year’s Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has stated about this great day, “Throughout its history, the nation has been tested and has persevered because of the sacred American principles rooted in our founding documents. The Inaugural Ceremonies, a tradition since 1789, embodies the principles expressed by the Founders in 1776 and symbolizes our continuing commitment to these ideals. When we gather for the 60th Presidential Inauguration, we will honor the Constitution’s promise to preserve liberty through a stable, enduring democracy for generations to come." Doesn’t honoring this great day call for the symbol of our great nation to be at its peak, raised fully for the world as a beacon of the Republic it stands for?

It is not only demoralizing and de-unifying for our nation’s people but is unsanctified for the world to see the Flag of the United States of America represented as mourning, and at half-staff, during Inauguration Day. As one President passes may we still honor his legacy, but in much the same vein as Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, let us acknowledge it is “far above our poor power to add or detract” and “It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.”

The sanctity that Inauguration Day represents for US citizens clearly calls for the Flag to be fully raised. Please sign this petition to voice your agreement that the Flag be raised on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025.
