The Issue

The speed limit on the main road in Neville Island (Neville Road) fluctuates from 25MPH to 35MPH, both of which are far too low for the landscape and conditions. The road is straight and flat with great visibility and features far superior conditions compared to most other Western PA roadways. I suggest the speed limits be raised to 35MPH and 45MPH respectively.

Especially on the back channel, the roads conditions match that of a highway with some sections even containing a divider and far less vehicular traffic. The speed limit on this four lane divided highway is 35MPH. Based on roads in the area with higher speed limits, more dangerous conditions and less visibility, this appears to be a cash grab.

It is well known that the Ohio Township Police Department, notorious for their strict traffic stops, has a motorist pulled over during every hour of the day. When the speed limit is so low, an action as simple as overtaking a large truck can result in high fines, increased insurance costs and unnecessary time wasted in court for motorists and officers alike.

In conclusion, I see no legitimate, apparent reason a person cannot safety travel Neville Road with an increase of 10 MPH on each section of the road. If there are legitimate, common sense reasons that can be provided to validate the current speed limit - provide us a list! We also demand to see any traffic study or other evaluation that has been conducted in recent history that may provide insight as to these limits. It’s time to get with the times and provide reasonable speed limits on Neville Island! Help me send a message to the local government!
