raise the minimum wage to 10 dollars in Texas.

The Issue

in Texas, the minimum wage is 7.25 per hour. it is not the fact that it is a very low amount compared to many states, but the fact is that it has not risen since 2009,which is a long time for no change in the minimum wage. the economy in 2009 was, very much different than now.7.25 per hour is very little in today's economy. you cannot buy an apartment, you cannot buy groceries, and you cannot support yourself. even though $10 an hour is not enough, it can still go a little more ways. you can have an apartment, you can buy and spend more money, and it brings less struggle to people. even though most people that get minimum wage are teens under the age of 18, an extra 2.75 in the wage increase would mean more money going to college savings, or savings for the future. when teens are saving up for college and for their future, 7.25 is not enough money to save up for college.  lets say if a teenager is working 38 hours per week, and works 50 weeks in a year, that only equals up to 13,775 dollars, which would probably be gone in 3 quarters of a year. but if we raise it to ten dollars, that teenager with the same schedule will get 19,000 dollars, which could last a year or two. I think it is also great for the people who are not making a lot of money, since this rule would help them to buy more necessities and items that they may or may not need. it also has been shown by the NIH that life satisfaction and happiness is generally higher when the minimum wage is higher. so, let's stand up and increase the minimum wage to at least 10 dollars an hour!
