The din is settling down a bit on this horrendous case of rape and murder and some facts are emerging.

The incontrovertible facts are:

1) The victim was supposedly in a protected, familiar place - her own hospital !

2) A security setup and her own friends were supposedly around.

Imagine now the plight of the patients:

1) Unfamiliar surroundings, no family and friends around, usually

2) Very limited idea of what treatment is being given to them and what to expect.

3) In Operating theater/ ICUs, maybe unconscious with no ability to know- or protests- if anything wrong is being done to them !

And worst, unlike the very powerful doctors' lobby that can bring governments and courts to quick actions, no collective voice to highlight their plight.

And incidents  of unethical treatment, medical negligence are not even reported in the media because of this lack of awareness and voice!

As our collective voice grows stronger, we can hope to bring about positive changes. Which can only be good got all- patients as well as ethical doctors !
