Its hard to believe but its true: in 7 days we’ve had almost 40,000 extra signatures! If Ofsted and the government didn’t realise it before, now they know keeping children with medical conditions safe in school really matters of thousands of people across the country. Thanks so much to everyone who signed up last week; my daughter Jenny and I really appreciate the support.
The campaign gave me a busy week too. After the Health Conditions in School Alliance backed our campaign publicly on Tuesday, I spoke with the BBC and Sky News to explain why I started this petition. If that was a bit nerve-wracking at the start, I got plenty of practice, doing three live interviews in a row last Tuesday at Broadcasting House!
You might even have seen the video I made with Dr. Hilary Jones about why I started this petition. Dr. Hilary was really nice, and having a child with Type 1 diabetes himself he understood exactly why our campaign is so important.

I haven’t been able to keep up with the streams of comments and messages on the petition this week, but I’m so grateful for all of them. The number of kids facing the same problems Jenny has is really sad, and shows Ofsted and the Minister that they need to take action now.
And that’s the message the Minister Edward Timpson will get when he meets with the Health Conditions in School Alliance next month.
He’ll be told he needs to help schools get the right policies in place to keep children safe. And he’ll hear that Ofsted need to tell inspectors to regularly check those policies are in place during their inspections.
We’re at about 44,000 signatures now. If we could get to 50,000 before that meeting at the start of May, it would be a brilliant achievement. So please do share this on social media and with everyone you think may be interested.
As more of us have signed up and proved we care about children like Jenny with medical conditions, we’ve made more and more progress. So let’s keep going!
