The wealth gap effects every single one of us. While the top 1% of the UK's population holds 23% of the UK's wealth, the bottom 50% own under 5%. It's even worse for the bottom 20%, who have to survive on the 0.5% that they own. This unfair distribution leads to a massive increase in poverty (now 22%) and through the cost of living crisis it means the rich still get richer while those with less are losing the little financial security they had.
