Dear all,
Our petition to the NSW parliament's lower house seeking the restoration of Passenger train services from Armidale to Wallangarra is almost ready to be handed to our local MP Hon. Adam Marshall to be delivered to the cleark of LA. Once delivered, it will be included in the business paper for a debate, we hope. Thuis will likely be in November session 2023.
Currently we in Trains North are discussing with Mr. Marshall's office the mechanics of handover.
In the meantime, both Armidale regional and Glen Innes Severn councils are in negotiations with Public Works Advisory, Dept of Regional NSW and Transport for NSW(TFNSW) to seek further funding for the New England Rail Trail, Apply for the lease of rail corridor and update the business case in preparation of requesting the minister for regional transport and roads to present a regulation to the NSW parliament approving the rail trail plan for the rail corridor between. Armidale and BGlen Innes(103 kms).
These steps are being taken against the majority community view that the rail corridor should not be removed to construct the rail trail(bike and walk path). The petition with over 10,500 signatures from NSW residents clearly show that the community supports restoration of the line for train services.
Our campaign for this purpose continues.
